CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION
·
FLAIR - Each classroom can choose to decide how they want to distinguish their
team from others by adding a little flair to their wardrobe on race day – maybe
everyone wears a funny hat, socks, crazy hair, plaid shorts, or something that
lets everyone know what team you are on – be creative!
BANNER
– Each class will have the opportunity to come up with
a banner concept for their team. Banners
will
include Team Name and something that represents each student. Room parents will create the banners for each
class.
Classroom Connection
Kayla and Megan's second grade students use story gloves to help them include all of the story elements into their retell (characters, problem, solution, setting, moral).
Wednesday Recap!
Learning to be a
good reader is a lifetime of work.
Expose kids to
different purposes for reading.
Smart power vs.
control power
Explicitly teach
strategies as they’re reading.
Text that is too
hard creates “reading blisters!”
Students see
themselves as readers
Make thinking
strategies concrete.
Use mentor text to
show think aloud.
Give students
choice to increase engagement.
Integrate reading
and writing.
Let students into
your head.
Reading is about making meaning and thinking deeply.
We all end up in
the same place, but for some, it takes a little longer.
Reading is deep and
we need to find meaning.
Teach kids to love
it. It is a form of entertainment.
Give time to really
understand. Should not be rushed.
